Medical Care Alert — No Long-Term Contracts
Life circumstances can change quickly. Medical Care Alert does not require a long-term contract. If at any time you decide you no longer need a medical alert system, simply cancel your plan. Because of this, Medical Care Alert is a great system for those seniors who may be reluctant to try a medical alert system.
Medical Care Buying Experience
With so many medical alert systems to choose from, doing the research and calling around to find the right system can be a real challenge. Medical Care Alert does a few things that make the buying experience easy.
Each plan is clearly outlined on their website so you can compare which features each system has to offer. In addition, Medical Care Alert also compares what’s offered with their quarterly, semi-annual, and annual plans. All of the information is included on easy-to-understand infographics.
If you have any questions, you can call and talk to a representative who can help you decide which plan is right for you. They are even available on the weekends!
Don’t want to spend your afternoon on the phone? Medical Care Alert also offers a free brochure so you can learn more. The information is printed on paper and sent through the mail, which is much easier for most seniors to read than an electronic brochure on the internet.
Medical Care Alert Equipment
Medical Care Alert offers in-home, GPS, and fall detection options like you would expect from a medical alert system, but their equipment includes some surprising features.
In-Home and In-Home Cellular Equipment
The equipment offered by Medical Care Alert is what you would expect from any medical alert system. Both the Home System and the Home & Yard System rely on an in-home unit that utilizes a landline. Cellular units are available, but there isn’t a lot of information on the website, so you’ll have to call in and speak with a customer service representative about your options.
The Home System has a 1,000-foot range, while the Home & Yard System allows you to communicate directly with a customer service representative up to 600 feet away from the base unit, covering you while you’re outdoors. The base unit can be mounted to the wall or set on a table. Although the equipment is effective, it does look a little outdated.
Medical Care Alert’s in-home systems do have two unique features that you aren’t likely to find with other systems:
- Only one alert button is offered. So, instead of choosing a wrist pendant, clip-on button, or neck pendant, the one alert button is completely convertible, allowing you to wear it as a necklace one day and as a bracelet the next.
- The Home & Yard System features a two-way voice pendant – this allows the user to venture up to 600 feet away from the base unit while still being able to maintain voice contact with the monitoring center. This is extremely helpful if you were to fall at the mailbox or in the garden.
The Home System is constructed by Bosch out of hospital-grade materials. The buttons can even survive a round in the washer! So, even though the equipment looks a bit dated, it is exceptionally sturdy.
In-Home Setup and Installation
Setting up the system is fairly simple. Both the Home System and Home & Yard System need to be plugged into the landline and into an outlet in the wall. Once you have the system plugged in, push the emergency button and a live operator will complete the setup with you.
After the unit is installed, you can use the auto-test button to make sure the unit is working properly.
There’s no reason to worry about your battery. Not only does the Home System offer 72 hours of battery life backup, but the monitoring center is notified if you ever lose power.
Automatic Fall Detection Equipment
The Home & Away System offers a GPS-enabled device that can be paired with automatic fall detection protection. This device is small and portable, highly water-resistant, contains two-way voice communication, and weighs under two ounces. It’s the only pendant of its kind.
Unlike other providers that only offer one fall detection device, Medical Care Alert gives you the option to add fall detection to their home systems, which is included in the pendant. The pendant is small enough that you can conveniently wear it around your neck. It is also completely waterproof, so it can be taken into the shower.
Automatic Fall Detection Setup and Installation
Setup depends on the fall detection device that’s being used.
If you choose the Home & Away Elite system, which includes the GPS-enabled device with fall detection, you’ll need to plug the device into the charging station on a daily basis. If you opt for the optional fall detection pendant with the home-only systems, the pendant utilizes a battery, so there are no charging cradles.
Mobile GPS Equipment
The equipment is pretty basic with their Home & Away Elite system. Equipment includes the GPS emergency button device, as well as the charging cradle. There is no need for additional wrist or neck pendants. The device weighs under two ounces and a leather carrying case is provided with your purchase so you can take it with you wherever you go.
Medical Care Alert’s GPS systems utilizes AT&T’s wireless network, so the only cord you have to worry about is the cord that plugs into the outlet in your wall. AT&T wireless communication is built into the pendant, so no cell phone or additional cellular service is required to use the system.
Mobile GPS Setup and Installation
Because there is very little equipment, setup is extremely easy. All you have to do is plug the charging cradle into the wall and charge the GPS device in the cradle.
There are a few accessories that you can add to your order that include a(n):
- Fall detection system
- Emergency wall communicator
- Cellular module, if you do not have a landline phone in the home
Cost and Value of Medical Care Alert
The Home System costs just $29.95 per month, which is cheaper than some other medical alert systems. The Home & Yard System costs $34.95 per month. However, payments are made on a billing plan with choices that include paying quarterly, semi-annually, and annually. You can save money in the long run by choosing the annual plan.
Like many other medical alert system companies, fall detection can be added to any in-home plan for just $10 per month. However, Medical Care Alert is pushing their Home & Away Elite system since this is the best option if you want fall detection. This system is competitively priced at $45.79 per month when you sign up for the annual billing plan. If that price is a bit steep, fall detection can be paired with the Home System for just $37.45 per month with an annual plan.
Pricing for the traditional Home & Away Elite system is fairly reasonable at $36.62 per month with the annual plan. If you don’t want to commit to a full year, you can choose a quarterly or semi-annual plan instead. However, the monthly price will be a bit more expensive at $39.95.
Pricing is made even simpler because there are no additional costs. There are no equipment costs and there is no activation fee. In addition, you may be able to get a few freebies, like free shipping, a free lock box, or a free month of service, depending on which plan you choose.
Not sure if Medical Care Alert is right for you? They are one of the only medical alert companies to offer a 30-day risk free trial! On top of that, they also offer a price lock guarantee, so you never have to worry about increasing fees.
Customer Service and Reputation
Medical Care Alert takes customer service seriously. Just like many other medical alert systems, they offer 24/7 service, but you can also talk to a representative about purchasing a unit on Saturday and Sunday.
The real difference between Medical Care Alert’s service and other medical alert systems is their trained staff. Their staff is based in the U.S., so you never have to worry about talking to a representative overseas. In addition, each customer service representative is an EMT-certified Life Safety Agent so you can rest assured that you’re getting the very best service in the event of an emergency.
The agent will stay with you on the line until help arrives at your location. They will even send emergency services if the help button was activated, but they are unable to communicate with you. They send the closest responders listed with your file for the fastest emergency service, and neighbors, family members, loved ones, and caregivers on your account will be notified of the situation.
Medical Care Alert enjoys an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and a 9 out of 10 in customer reviews. They have a ‘Great’ rating of 8.7 on Trustpilot, and they even won the Angie’s List Super Service Award several years in a row!
Medical Care Alert offers a couple of affordable systems, but you also have the option of expanding your coverage to the yard with the Home & Yard System, or even further with the Home & Away System. Fall detection can be added to any plan.
Because representatives are EMT-certified, you can rest assured that you’re getting the very best help when you notify them of an emergency situation.
