Medical Guardian, already a leader when it comes to medical alert systems, is solidifying themselves as the leader with a re-brand – speaking to the wants and needs of today’s aging adults. Already rated #1 as our choice for the Best Medical Alert System of 2017, Medical Guardian is challenging an industry that’s remained relatively unchanged over the past 20 years to reach the seniors of today by empowering the aging adult population. Let’s face it, while aging brings many benefits – retirement, watching one’s children and grandchildren grow up – it also comes with its challenges – from living alone to health-related issues – to loved ones who want to ensure you’re OK. With today’s population living longer and wanting more productive lives, medical alert systems should map to the aging adult’s stage in life – empowering people to get the most out of life. People are not suddenly “old” and require a traditional in-home medical alert system with a big red button. People age and as they age, their needs change. Medical Guardian is effectively telling the population of aging adults – no matter what stage of life you are at, we want to help you get the most out of it. CEO of Medical Guardian, Geoff Gross, elaborates, “We’re leading the charge in reversing the misconceptions around growing old by helping people embrace what’s ahead. Our new look now aligns with our conviction that a PERS device makes it possible for people to keep living the lives they want to lead.”
Usually, a company rebrands itself by simply tweaking their logo and color scheme or updating their mission statement to be more current and so it differentiates themselves from the competition. While Medical Guardian has done that and also launched a new beautiful website, one gets the sense they are rebranding the entire medical alert industry.
No less than a herculean effort was made in order to ensure they did things right. Medical Guardian embarked on an extensive discovery and research process that began with the most important element of all, talking to their audience of aging adults through surveys, focus groups, and one-on-one interviews.
One of the most positive takeaways from their research was this – nearly one-third of survey respondents believed that every home should have a PERS (Personal Emergency Response System), no matter what the age, physical abilities, or medical considerations of the people who live there.
That’s an impressive statistic and one that shows aging adults, by and large, understand the benefits of having help should you need it available to anyone and everyone – personalized to map to the needs of the individual.
It will be interesting to see how the medical alert industry responds to Medical Guardian’s initiative. One thing’s for certain, Medical Guardian is moving forward and puts their message front-and-center on their new website. Among the innovative features launched that highlighted their messaging are:
- Risk Score: This innovative feature allows you to answer a few questions that will help you identify your risk of falling or experiencing a medical emergency. Medical Guardian will provide you with a recommended system, depending on your score.
- Help Me Choose: Answer a short questionnaire and Medical Guardian will recommend a system depending on your particular lifestyle.
- MyGuardian Customer Portal: As a Medical Guardian customer, you can track a shipment, view the details of your account, update your billing information, download user manuals and eBooks, and watch product videos.
- Medical Alert Blog: Although Medical Guardian had a blog before, the new blog will focus on becoming a resource for older adults. That means covering educational topics and important issues that are relevant to seniors.
InHome has been shopping, testing, reviewing, and ranking medical alert systems for more than five years now. In that time, our core criteria have not changed:
- Shopping Experience
- Equipment & Setup
- Price & Value
- Monitoring & Reputation
With Medical Guardian already leading in our rankings, it’s a safe bet that 2018 will see a repeat of the #1 position. The bigger question is, how do you rank a company who rebrands not just their company, but an entire industry – an industry devoted to helping aging adults get the most out of life. Right now, Medical Guardian is in a class by themselves.
